Blood Lily In Bloom

When I arrived at my parent's place today, I was greeted by a huge blood lily bloom under the front window!  Last year they were somewhat small, but I didn't expect them to be bigger this year for some reason.

Here's how they looked last year, so you can imagine my excitement over this year's improvement!

I've been busy lately so I didn't get to do the hot loud and proud meme this time, but I suppose this blood lily is as close as I can get!
I'll have the winners of the (epic fail of a) csn contest tomorrow, so thanks to those who entered!

  1. Beautiful! I just planted one this year and the large "powder puff" blossom is really quite something. The name however is really not...well...very pretty. Are your blooms from more than one bulb or did one bulb put up multiple blooms? Also, how tall is the stalk?

  6. I heard blood lily is one of those bulbs that we can grow in Florida, just can not find where to buy them. Yours is gorgeous! How big this can grow? From the picture, it seems quite short in height?

  7. NICE!!! A coworker of mine has one in a vase on her desk. I was surprised by the odd rubbery texture. It's really remarkably beautiful. I think I need some!

  8. I bought a blood lily bulb in the fall at Marie Selby Gardens.I had never seen one before and was surprised one June morning. Seems like it popped up overnight. I was expecting it to be taller. The stem was only 6 inches or so. Thrilled to know that next year it will probably be taller.
